"MABUHAY!" (literally, "Long Live!") is a traditional and customary greeting we Filipinos say especially to greet foreigners who are first-time visitors in a certain place. It is also exclaimed during a celebration of a successful event, e.g. "Mabuhay ang Pilipino!" ("Long live Filipinos!").

Rizal-Park-3 edit.jpg

Dr. Jose Rizal Park is a 9.6 acre (39,000 m) park on the  North Beacon Hill, Seattle, Washington. The land, condemned by the city in 1917 for engineering purposes and was acquired by the Seattle's Parks Dept in 1971. Later, the park was named after Dr. José Rizal, national hero of the Philippines.

This iconic historical park monument is the only park and bridge outside from the Philippines that was named after its National hero.  Dr. Jose Rizal Park is bounded on the west by Interstate 5, on the north by Interstate 90, on the east by 12th Avenue S., and on the south by S. Judkins Street.

The Dr. Jose Rizal is one of the most beautiful parks in Seattle with its breathtaking views of downtown Seattle. It consists of a grassy upper area with shelter and picnic tables, a wooded hillside, and an off-leash dog park at the foot of the hill.

However, it has a negative reputation with incidents of drug dealings and assaults due to its homeless population that populate the area known as the "Jungle" - a perpetual homeless encampment.  It has been a struggle by the neighborhood and concerned citizens to maintain its peaceful atmosphere and to be able to enjoy a relaxing walk along the trail without the fear of being attacked.  Though the issue has subsided in the most recent years, the fear for many remains, especially after the daylight hours.  The restoration and beautification of Dr. Jose Rizal park is very much needed!

Our Mission

The Dr. Jose Rizal Bridge

Connecting International District and Beacon Hill, Seattle, WA

(photo: www.bohonus.com)

To continue the legacy of Eutiquio de La Victoria “Vic” Bacho and Trinidad Rojo and other vibrant Filipino Community leaders like Zenaida F. Guerzon and Seattle councilwoman Dolores Sibonga who paved and lead the ways for the Filipino Community in Seattle to be recognized and honored for its major contribution not only in Greater Seattle but to the United States itself.

This historical landmark, Dr. Jose Rizal Park & Bridge, the only park and bridge outside the Philippines named after its national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal is an honor and pride for all Filipinos throughout the world!   The legacy that our beloved Filipino leaders who unselfishly dedicated their lives to built a monument  that we, Filipinos can call our very own signifies strong united Filipinos!  Let's honor their legacy by continuing their long battle for the recognition of  all Filipinos not only in Seattle but through out the world.  Their accomplishments and achievements can not be easily dismissed, ignored or forgotten  but must be celebrated and rejoiced for the younger generations to remember and enjoy! .

The restoration and beautification of the Dr. Jose Rizal Park & Bridge, NOT only defies what the Filipinos in Seattle can do but show the City of Seattle or the Universe rather that WE, Filipinos are confidently beautiful people with a heart!
